Local food

What food comes to your mind if you think of Mexico? Tortilla, taco chips, guacamole?
Well the Yucatecan kitchen was influenced by many cultures and still has a little European flair in it.
To my biggest surprise seafood is not a common part of the kitchen. Usually the portions are smaller than in Europe and definitely smaller than in the US.
A simple meal includes usually rice, beans and bit of pork or chicken. As a side dish you should really try the fresh guacamole with taco chips. I could not get enough of it.
Some of the typical dishes are:

The Lime Soup - a soup made with shredded chicken, bits of fried tortilla, and lime juice.
Pollo Pibil - chicken marinated in achiote paste, sour orange juice, peppercorns, garlic, cumin, salt and then wrapped in banana leaves and baked.
Poc Chuc - tender slices of pork marinated in sour orange juice, grilled, and served with a tangy sauce and pickled onions.
Frijol con Puerco - chunks of pork cooked with black beans served with rice and garnished with radish, cilantro and onion.
